Benicia Herasimchuk?

No joke, every time I go up north and over the Benicia bridge I think how beautiful the name Benicia would be for an African American baby. But really though, I think it would be a beautiful name for any baby. Funny that I think that it would belong to an African American baby though - interesting article from Salon.com on the history and sociological aspects of the sometimes incredibly unique names in African American culture.

Although it was probably the Carquinez Bridge, not the Benecia, unless you took 24 to 680.

Benicia was actually the first name of the wife of General Vallejo (yep, Vallejo was named after him). It is Spanish and pronounced (correctly) as Ben-ee'-see-ah (yes, in spite of the local and long-running debate over whether it should be pronounced Ben-ISH'-ah, or Ben-EESH'-ah, neither one of those are correct). Isn't it pretty! There are people with that name, too, as I've seen them pop up on my google alert on the word "Benicia." True story! Deborah/Benicia, CA.
